There are twelve public parks in Norfolk: Johnson Park, Memorial Athletic Field, Ta-ha-Zouka Park (pictured left), Central Park, City Square, Fourth Street Park, Verges Park, Westside, Winter Park, Skyview and Liberty Bell, totaling 387 acres. For the traveler or weekend camper Ta-ha-Zouka Park offers inexpensive camping facilities and entertainment for the whole family. Facilities in the Norfolk Park system includes picnic grounds, fire grates, picnic shelters, rest rooms, playground equipment, play fields, baseball fields, softball fields, football field, basketball courts, tennis courts,skating rinks, swimming pools, wading pools, camping, non-motorized boating, and fishing.

Skyview Park consists of 175 acres of beautiful, grassy, rolling hills. Skyview provides fishermen of the area with a wide array of fish, bass, catfish, northern pike, bluegill, and crappie. Sailing enthusiast enjoy the quiet peaceful setting as hikers walk the trail encircling the entire lake.

 

Willow Creek Dam is located 14 miles northwest of Norfolk and includes 700 acres serving as flood control for the North Fork River Valley,and a regional recreational center. The earth-filled dam is 3000 feet long with a maximum height of 55 feet providing a maximum water depth of about 30 feet. Willow Creek offers boating, ice fishing, swimming, skiing, picnicking, horseback riding, snowmobiling, hunting, and camping. For the bird enthusiast, Willow Creek has a wide variety of wild game and waterfowl.

Maskenthine is another great recreational area provided by the Natural Resources District. Admission is free to the public and offers an arboretum, swimming, fishing, boating, hunting, and camping. Fish species present in Maskenthine are large mouth bass, bluegill, crappie, walleye, northern pike, and channel catfish. It also offers good ice fishing in the winter.

The Nebraska Game & Parks Commission maintains more than 20 Wildlife Management Areas in the region. The habitat land provides forage and nesting grounds for many species of wildlife. Wildlife Management Areas in the Norfolk Area are: Red Wing, Neligh; Yellowbanks, Battle Creek; Oak Valley, Battle Creek; Wood Duck, Stanton: Red Fox, Pilger; Black Island, Pilger; Grove Lake, Royal; and Buckskin Hills, Newcastle.

If you are an avid hunter, Yellow Banks, Wood Duck, Oak Valley, and Red Fox, along with many private farms provide a hunter's paradise. The abundance of deer, pheasant, quail, dove, duck, goose, and rabbit will provide the excellent hunter the opportunity to fill their bag limits.
